Before launching your community, it’s very important that everyone within your organization is on the same page with regards to the overall vision of your community. Though there may be an understood common vision, it’s important to explicitly document it so you can define measurable objectives.
Determining a Mission for your community does not have to be a huge exercise or a large consumption of time. Simply sit down with the key stakeholders on the project, for instance: product managers, support team, marketing team, community manager, etc. and discuss what the overall vision should look like. Will your community deliver relevant content to your prospects? Will your community help reduce support costs? Will your community drive new product innovation? Who, from your company, will participate in the community? And how often?
